TIPS for Virtual Test Session
Updated Guidelines for Virtual tests At Ice Line Figure Skating Club
- Based on the changes to USFS Rules, the earliest time a skating test marked RETRY can be taken again is the 13th day after the date of the RETRY test, e.g., if the initial test was taken on May 1st, the earliest date a new attempt can be made is May 14th. This rule applies to:
- All skating skills tests (including adult 21+and 50+)
- Standard pre-Bonze, Pre-Preliminary, Preliminary, Adult pre-Bronze, Bronze and Adaptive Skating Singles tests
- All partnered pattern dance tests
- All Solo pattern dance tests
- All adult pairs tests
- All adult partnered or solo free dance tests
- All figure tests
- For the following tests, there is no waiting period between a test marked Retry. Although a test may be taken only once on a calendar day, i.e., a skater can take the test the next day if they can find and register for a test session. This rule applies to:
- Standard Singles, pairs tests, partnered free or solo free dance tests at the Bronze or higher levels
- Adult singles at the Silver level or higher
Video Guidelines for Virtual test sessions
- Because of the new changes, for a virtual test session, the video must be recorded within 14 days of the submission deadline which is the test date.
- All videos must be accompanied by a performance affidavit, a release and consent form and if required a “permission to test” from their home club.
- A performance may only be evaluated once for test credit, e.g., a video of test that is being judged in an “in person’ test session may not be submitted to a virtual test session, nor may a video that has already been submitted to a virtual test session may be submitted to a second virtual test session.
- Skaters need to confirm a Proctor for the test.
- A proctor needs to be an impartial individual of authority , e.g., test chair, rink manager, skating school director. This individual cannot be a coach/choreographer who has worked the skater, the skater’s personal friend or a skater who trains with the same coach, or a parent guardian of the skater or of their friends and training mates. The videographer may serve as a proctor if they meet the former criteria.
- Proctors must watch the skater’s test performance and verify that the full performance was completed on the date and time indicated at the start of the video and that is a single continuous performance.
- Prior to the start of the test performance, the skater’s name, home club and test name must be announced or displayed.
- A date and time stamp must be clearly shown at the beginning of the test video by holding a mobile device such as a phone or tablet. The device must show the date (month and day) and time at the start of the video.
- The performance affidavit must be signed by the skater testing, their coach, the videographer and the proctor indicating that the skater’s test video is in its original format and has not been altered in any way.
- Please record test videos in the landscape mode, i.e., turn phone or tablet horizontally. The video should be shot at 1080p60 if possible. There is a minimum requirement of 720p60. Videos shot at less that 720p60 will not be accepted. For additional information on recording and uploading a test video, please see the document, “Virtual Testing Video Requirements2”, located on our EntryEeze website.
- No more that 8 skaters on the ice at the time of recording the test. The skater taking the test must be clearly visible during the recording of the test. All audio must be recorded. Note, the testing skater will not be penalized if there is background music playing during a skating skills test (formerly referred to as MIF tests).
- For the 2023-2024 season at Ice Line Figure Skating Club, the deadline to register for a virtual test is 7 days prior to the deadline submission date/test date, e.g., if the test date is Jan. 10th, the deadline to register will be Jan. 3rd. There will be no late registrations for virtual test sessions.
