Snowplow Sam Classes

❄️ Snowplow Sam (Ages 6 & Under)

Intro to Skating for Young Children
Snowplow Sam is a four-level learn-to-skate program specially designed for kids ages 6 and under. With a focus on fun, confidence, and safety, skaters learn the fundamentals of movement through games and structured play.

Class Levels:

  • Snowplow Sam 1 – Stand up, march in place, basic balance and dips

  • Snowplow Sam 2 – March and glide, backward walking, beginning swizzles

  • Snowplow Sam 3 – Forward skating, one-foot glides, backward swizzles, snowplow stop

  • Snowplow Sam 4 – More advanced gliding, turns, rocking horse, two-foot hop

After Snowplow Sam 3, skaters may advance to Basic 2 or Hockey 2 depending on interest and ability.

Basic Skills Classes

⛸️ Basic Skills (Ages 7–16)

FUNdamentals for Future Skaters
Basic Skills is designed for skaters ages 7–16 and lays the foundation for figure skating, hockey, or recreational skating. Each level builds agility, balance, and coordination in a positive environment.

Class Levels:

  • Basic 1 – Stand up, march, two-foot glides, dips, and snowplow stops

  • Basic 2 – One-foot glides, backward swizzles, two-foot turns, snowplow stops

  • Basic 3 – Forward stroking, slalom, backward glides, snowplow stops

  • Basic 4 – Forward edges, crossovers, backward pumps, two-foot spin

  • Basic 5 – Backward edges/crossovers, three-turns, hockey stop, spins

  • Basic 6 – Mohawks, one-foot spins, T-stops, spirals, bunny hops

After completing Basic 6, skaters can transition into figure skating, hockey, or performance-based skating programs.

Hockey Classes

🏒 Hockey Skating (Ages 6+)

Build the Foundation for Hockey Success
This two-level hockey skating program focuses on proper skating technique needed for game situations—no pucks are used so that skaters can fully focus on their stride, edges, and agility.

Class Levels:

  • Hockey 1/2 – Hockey stance, basic glides, swizzles, snowplow stop, Forward strides, one-foot glides, backward C-cuts, stops

  • Hockey 3/4 – Crossovers, inside/outside edges, backward stops, Quick starts, crossover glides, tight hockey stops

 

Full hockey equipment not required: hockey skates and HECC-approved helmet are needed.

Adult Classes

👟 Adult Skating (Ages 16+ and Up)

Skate for Fun, Fitness & Confidence
Whether you're stepping onto the ice for the first time or brushing up after years away, the Adult curriculum offers a supportive environment to build skill and confidence at your own pace through six progressive levels.

Class Levels:

  • Adult 1 – Marching, swizzles, dips, forward gliding, snowplow stop

  • Adult 2 – One-foot glides, slalom, backward swizzles, two-foot turns

  • Adult 3 – Stroking, two-foot turns on circle, chasses, backward gliding

  • Adult 4 – Edges, crossovers, hockey stop, one-foot glides

  • Adult 5 – Backward edges/crossovers, three-turns, swing rolls, spins

  • Adult 6 – Stroking patterns, three-turns, power pulls, lunges, advanced spins

Great for adults looking for a new fitness activity or to eventually join hockey or figure skating programs.
